EDMONDS, WA - Clark College battled throughout Friday afternoon but came up short in a 5-0 loss to Umpqua on May 15 at Triton Field. Dropping the loser out Super Regional game ended the Penguins sesason.
Despite the shutout, Clark College showed resilience at the plate, collecting seven hits against a strong Umpqua pitching staff. Kobin Mullins paced the Penguins offensively with a pair of hits and a walk, while DJ Ringenbach added two hits, including a double. Caden Taylor, Jase Pashales, and Lucas Tiernan also recorded hits for Clark.
On the mound, Garrett Maunu turned in a competitive start, striking out five over six innings of work. The freshman right-hander kept Clark within striking distance through much of the afternoon before Umpqua used a three-run sixth inning to create separation. Kenneth Hall provided solid relief, striking out two over the final two innings.
Umpqua opened the scoring in the second inning on a solo home run by Jeremiah Robbins and later added insurance runs with another RBI hit from Robbins and a two-run homer by Jaxon Marble in the sixth. Taylor Davis capped the scoring with an RBI single in the seventh.
Clark continued to battle late, putting runners on base in multiple innings, but Umpqua pitchers Beau Ramsey and Camden Hartsell combined for 10 strikeouts to preserve the shutout.
Even in defeat, the Penguins flashed strong defensive play with an error-free performance in the field and continued to show toughness and competitiveness. The Penguins finished the season 17-25.
