Game Recap: Baseball |

Clark Jumps Out Early But Can't Hold Leads Against Lane

EUGENE, Ore. — Clark College battled throughout Thursday's doubleheader against Lane Community College, showing early spark and late resilience, but ultimately came up short in both games, falling 13-2 and 13-9.

Game 1: Fast Start Fades Late

Clark came out aggressive in the opener, jumping ahead in the first inning. Kobin Mullins drove in the game's first run, and Taddeo Ituarte added a sacrifice fly to give the Penguins a 2-0 lead.

Starting pitcher Rylan Taguchi kept Lane in check early, holding the Titans scoreless through four innings while working efficiently on the mound.

Lane broke through in the fifth inning, taking a 3-2 lead before erupting for eight runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach. The Titans finished with 16 hits in the contest.

Offensively, Clark was led by Caden Taylor's two-hit effort, while Ituarte and Parker Peschel each contributed hits. Mullins and Ituarte accounted for the Penguins' two RBIs.

Game 2: Penguins Rally, But Can't Overcome Big Innings

The nightcap turned into a back-and-forth battle, with Clark once again striking early and refusing to go away.

After trading runs in the first inning, the Penguins exploded for four runs in the second. Lucas Tiernan sparked the rally with an RBI double, Drew Yount followed with a run-scoring hit, and Kaedon Cruse and Mullins each drove in runs to give Clark a 5-1 advantage.

Lane answered immediately with a six-run third inning, capitalizing on walks and defensive miscues to swing momentum back in its favor. The Titans added insurance runs in the fourth and fifth innings to extend their lead.

Clark continued to battle. Parker Peschel delivered a two-run double in the fifth to cut into the deficit, and the Penguins added two more runs in the seventh on an RBI from Mason Bluestein and a run-scoring single by Tiernan.

Tiernan finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Peschel also drove in a pair. Jase Pashales scored three runs, and Yount added two hits and an RBI in the effort.

Takeaways

Across both games, Clark showed the ability to generate early offense and put pressure on Lane pitching, but big innings from the Titans proved decisive. Lane combined for 26 runs over the two games, using timely hitting and patience at the plate to capitalize on opportunities.

Clark will look to build on its offensive production and limit big innings as the Penguins return to Lane for another doubleheader on Saturday.
