#7 Clackamas Sweeps Clark

OREGON CITY, OR - Clark College softball faced a tough road doubleheader at Clackamas on April 17, dropping both games, but showing flashes of offensive response and competitive adjustments as the day progressed.

In the first game, Clackamas set the tone early with a powerful first inning, scoring four runs on a mix of timely hits and aggressive baserunning. Clark struggled to settle in defensively as the Cougars continued to apply pressure at the plate. Despite the early deficit, the Penguins broke through in the second inning when Amber Barela delivered an RBI single that brought in Dajah Paz, cutting the lead to 4–1.

Clackamas responded quickly, however, putting together a six-run second inning that widened the gap and shifted momentum firmly in their favor. Clark continued to battle, but the Cougars added runs in the third and fourth innings, ultimately taking the opener 13–2 in five innings.

In Game Two, Clark showed a stronger competitive edge from the start.

Clackamas again struck first with a four-run opening inning, but the Penguins answered in the second when Barela came through once more, driving in a run to keep Clark within striking distance. The response continued in the fourth inning when Dajah Paz singled home Zoey Mikkelsen, showing improved situational hitting and effort to extend at-bats.

Despite the offensive adjustments, Clackamas' lineup remained consistent and powerful throughout the game. The Cougars added runs in multiple innings, including extra-base hits and a fourth-inning home run that helped secure a 13–2 victory.

Across both games, Clark's offense showed moments of progress, collecting hits from Barela and Paz while working deeper counts and creating scoring opportunities in Game 2. However, Clackamas' sustained offensive pressure and ability to capitalize on innings proved decisive over the course of the doubleheader.

While the results were difficult, the second game in particular showed Clark's ability to respond and generate offense against a strong opponent. The Penguins will look to build on those adjustments as they continue conference play and work toward greater consistency on both sides of the ball.
