Yakima, WA - The Clark College softball team experienced the full spectrum of competition on April 11, earning a thrilling comeback win before running into adversity in the second game of a doubleheader.
Clark opened the day with one of its most exciting victories of the season, rallying past Wenatchee Valley for a 14–13 walk-off win. After falling behind 6–0 early and trailing 11–4 in the third inning, the Penguins responded with an explosive nine-run frame that completely shifted the momentum.
The rally featured contributions throughout the lineup, as Kairi Rowand delivered a standout performance with four RBIs, while Dajah Paz added three and Amber Barela chipped in two. Hit after hit kept the inning alive, with Jessica Tomberlin, Delaney Bollman, and Rylee Purdom all playing key roles as Clark surged ahead 13–11.
Wenatchee Valley battled back to tie the game in the sixth, but Clark had the final answer. In the bottom of the seventh, Lovieanne Franco helped spark the offense before Rowand came through again with a walk-off RBI single to cap the dramatic comeback. The Penguins finished with 22 hits in the opener, showcasing their offensive depth and resilience.
The second game against Spokane started in Clark's favor, as the Penguins jumped out to a 3–0 lead behind early production from Mylee Burrows and Delaney Bollman, while Zoey Mikkelsen continued her strong day at the plate with three hits.
However, the momentum shifted in the middle innings as Spokane capitalized on defensive struggles. Clark committed five errors, leading to a series of unearned runs that turned the game around. Spokane scored eight runs across the third and fourth innings to take control and never looked back.
Despite tallying 10 hits, Clark was unable to convert consistently, stranding 16 runners on base. The Penguins added a run in the fifth, but Spokane extended its lead late to secure a 12–4 win.
Across the doubleheader, Clark combined for 24 runs on 32 hits, highlighting the team's offensive capability. The dramatic comeback victory in game one showcased the Penguins' fight and ability to deliver in clutch moments, while the second game underscored the importance of defensive consistency.
Together, the two games reflected both the promise and growth of Clark College as the team continues to push forward through the season.
