Penguins Drop Doubleheader to Columbia Basin

PASCO, Wash. — The softball team from Clark College took on Columbia Basin College in a Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheader on March 6, with the Hawks claiming both games despite several bright moments for the Penguins.

Game 1: Columbia Basin 7, Clark 2

Columbia Basin used a strong start at the plate to take the opening game 7–2.

The Hawks scored two runs in the first inning and added two more in the second to build an early lead. They continued to apply pressure with additional runs in the third and fourth innings.

Clark broke through in the second inning when Sophia Lawrence reached base and came around to score, putting the Penguins on the board. Lawrence had a strong day at the plate, going 1-for-1 with a double while drawing two walks and scoring both Clark runs.

The Penguins added another run in the seventh inning. Mercedez Berduo-Flores delivered an RBI while Zoey Mikkelsen also drove in a run as Clark attempted a late rally.

In the circle, Kairi Rowand made the start and worked five innings, striking out three. Delaney Bollman came on in relief and tossed a scoreless sixth inning.

Game 2: Columbia Basin 11, Clark 1

The Hawks again struck early in game two, scoring four runs in the opening inning and adding four more in the third to pull away for an 11–1 victory in the five-inning contest.

Clark continued to compete offensively and broke through in the fifth inning. Shayla Seppala sparked the rally with a double and later scored on an RBI single from Delaney Bollman to bring home the Penguins' lone run.

Seppala, Bollman, Lovieanne Franco, and Berduo-Flores each recorded hits in the game for Clark.

Bollman also handled pitching duties for the Penguins, working four innings in the circle while striking out two.
