Offense Shines But Penguins Fall to Centralia

VANCOUVER, WA - Clark College endured a challenging doubleheader on March 27 at Raines Field, dropping both games to Centralia despite flashes of offensive production and late-game fight.

In the opener, Clark fell behind early as Centralia plated four runs in the first inning, taking advantage of timely hitting and defensive miscues. The Penguins responded with resilience, answering with two runs in the bottom half. Delaney Bollman helped spark the rally, while Mylee Burrows delivered an RBI double to cut the deficit to 4–2.

Centralia extended its lead with two more runs in the third and continued to apply pressure late, building a 9–3 advantage heading into the final inning. Clark refused to go quietly. In the seventh, Bollman drove in a run and Rylee Purdom electrified the home dugout with a two-run home run, trimming the deficit to 9–6. Despite the late push, the early gap proved too much to overcome.

Bollman led the Penguins with three hits and two runs scored, while Purdom drove in three runs. Burrows added a strong all-around effort, contributing both in the circle and at the plate.

Game 2 proved more difficult, as Centralia used a massive second inning to take control early. After scoring three runs in the first, Centralia erupted for 10 runs in the second inning, capitalizing on hits, walks, and defensive errors to break the game open.

Clark showed signs of life in the third when Purdom drove in a run, and added two more in the fourth on a two-RBI single from Zoey Mikkelsen, but the deficit remained too large to overcome. Centralia continued to tack on runs and secured a 17–3 victory in five innings.

Across the doubleheader, Purdom provided a consistent offensive presence, while Mikkelsen contributed key RBIs in Game 2. Despite the results, Clark continued to show determination at the plate, particularly in its ability to respond after falling behind.

Though the Penguins came up short in both contests, the experience highlighted areas for growth while also reinforcing the team's fight and ability to generate offense even in difficult stretches of play.

With the pair of losses Clark falls to 5-15 overall and 2-8 in region play. They return to action March 28th for a double header at Grays Harbor.
