12 Run Inning Helps Clark Split With Blue Mountain

Pendleton, OR — March 15, 2026 — Clark College faced off against Blue Mountain in a thrilling doubleheader Sunday, showing flashes of offensive firepower and resilience despite splitting the games.

Game 1: Clark Explodes in Extra Innings for a 19–7 Victory

Clark opened the day with a wild, back-and-forth contest, ultimately prevailing 19–7 in 10 innings. The Penguins' offense came alive in the extra frame, turning a 7–7 tie into a dominant finish. Kaedon Cruse led the charge with four hits and five RBIs, while Rylan Taguchi, Parker Peschel, and Jase Pashales added key contributions that fueled Clark's 12-run explosion in the 10th.

Pitching played a critical role as well. Kenneth Hall held Blue Mountain to just 2 earned runs over six strong innings, and reliever Trig Berens closed out the game, limiting the Mountaineers' late rally. Clark's ability to capitalize on extra-base hits and timely base running ultimately secured the first victory of the doubleheader.

Game 2: Clark Falls 5–4 in a Hard-Fought Rematch

In the second game, Clark battled back from an early deficit but came up short in a 5–4 loss. Blue Mountain jumped out to a 2–0 lead in the first inning with a two-run double from Ryder Loftis and a sacrifice fly from Noah Vibbert. The Penguins responded in the fourth inning with Lucas Tiernan driving in Caden Taylor and Taddeo Ituarte stealing home to tie the game at 2–2.

The Mountaineers regained the lead with a fourth-inning double from Christian Mendoza and an unearned run, making it 4–2. Clark fought back again in the sixth with RBIs from Caden Taylor and a sacrifice fly by Jase Pashales, knotting the game at 4–4. However, a late Blue Mountain run proved decisive, leaving Clark just short of completing the sweep.

Standout Performers

Across the doubleheader, several Penguins stood out:

  • Kaedon Cruse – 5 hits, 5 RBIs in game one, including the go-ahead single in the 10th.

  • Rylan Taguchi – Key RBIs and clutch baserunning in both games.

  • Caden Taylor – Multiple RBIs and runs scored, sparking both comebacks.

  • Jase Pashales – Delivered a critical double and sacrifice fly to keep Clark in contention.

Takeaways

Clark College showed tremendous grit and offensive depth, scoring 23 runs across the doubleheader and demonstrating the ability to come from behind. While the Penguins split the day, the team's explosive batting in extra innings and late-game resilience provide a strong foundation for upcoming conference play.
