EUGENE - Former Penguin Josh Schleichardt made his debut for the University of Oregon this past weekend as the Ducks swept George Mason University in Eugene, Oregon. Though he was hit by pitches in both of his at-bats, expect to see the senior utility played get a lot more opportunities this season.
During his Clark career Schleichardt started 88 games and led the Penguins in doubles, triples, home runs, and slugging percentage each of his two seasons with the club. He went on to play at Vanguard University before transferring to compete his senior season for Oregon.
Schleichardt was very complementary of his time with the Penguins and how his years with coaches Mark Magdaleno and Vinny Ferguson helped him become the player he is today. "Playing at Clark College shaped me into the player I am today. Having a program and a coach like Mags who believes in developing you not only as a player, but as a man off the field, changed my life. The culture of hard work, accountability, and belief pushed me to grow every single day. From junior college to earning the opportunity to play Division I baseball at the University of Oregon, none of it happens without the foundation built at Clark. Coach Vinnie Ferguson played a major role in my development and mentality to stay loose, relaxed, and controlled in every at-bat. With the help of Coach Vinnie and Mags I turned my goal into reality. I'm beyond grateful to compete on the biggest stage in college baseball. Glory to God."
During the summer, Schleichardt played the past three years for Penguin coach Mark Magdaleno and the Portland Pickles of the West Coast League. There, he was named West Coast League MVP and First-Team All-WCL as a first baseman in 2025. He also set WCL season records for home runs (18), at bats (200) and RBI (64) that season. Schleichardt finished second all-time in WCL history in runs (62), while ranking fifth in both slugging percentage (.650) and OPS (1.115) while setting the Pickles' single-season records for hits (65), runs, slugging percentage and OPS.
Having spent time with Schleichardt for so many years as a part of multiple teams, the honor of seeing the young man earn this milestone was incredibly special to Penguin Coach Mark Magdaleno. "I've known Josh since he was 16 years old, and it was always evident that his talent was a gift. I was his manager for two years at Clark and for three summers with the Portland Pickles, so we've competed together for close to 300 games. I've seen him hit the bottom and I've watched him set records, compete in the playoffs, and win a championship. Through all the ups and downs that all ball players experience, he always made a choice to be a man of character. His faith in God is unwavering, and he treats his teammates and those he meets with honesty. I couldn't be any prouder of him," Coach Mark Magdaleno said.Â
Congratulations Josh! We are excited to follow your career as a Duck and wish you all the best this season and beyond!
