LAKEWOOD, Wash. – Clark College showed grit and flashes of strong play, but the Penguins came up short Tuesday afternoon, dropping a 3–0 decision to Edmonds in non-league volleyball action at Pierce College. Set scores were 25–8, 25–21, 25–15.
After a rough start in the opening set, Clark regrouped and nearly stole momentum in the second. Behind the steady setting of Taylee Wilson, who dished out 14 assists and added six digs, the Penguins pushed Edmonds deep into the frame before falling just short, 25–21.
Abigail Heberle paced the attack with five kills, while Alexis Echols added seven kills and a solo block for eight total points. Middle blocker Kylie Miller provided a strong defensive presence at the net, tallying four blocks to go with four kills.
In the back row, libero Emelynn Cecil anchored Clark's defense with a match-high 18 digs, while Kim Saechao chipped in seven digs of her own.
Despite the effort, Clark couldn't overcome Edmonds' balance, as the Tritons (9–1) hit .194 overall..
The loss drops Clark to 1–4 on the season, but the Penguins showed promise in their defensive energy and improved execution in the second set. They'll look to build on that momentum when they return to the court later this week at the Clipper Blazer Classic on Friday, September 5th, in Centralia, Washington.
