VANCOUVER, Wash. – The Clark women's soccer team kicked off the 2025 season with a hard-fought 1-0 win over South Puget Sound on Wednesday evening at Clark College.
After a scoreless first half, freshman forward Bella Rodriguez delivered the breakthrough in the 52nd minute, finishing off a setup from Madeline Johnson for her first goal of the season. The strike stood as the lone tally of the match and secured the Penguins' first victory of the year.
Clark controlled much of the play, outshooting the Clippers 18-9 and generating 10 shots on goal. Freshman forward Bellaliis Town kept constant pressure on the South Puget Sound defense with five shots, while Lainey Haden added four attempts, three on frame.
Between the posts, Ella Lullich recorded five saves to earn the shutout in her Clark debut. The Penguins' back line, anchored by Gabriela Suarez-Luna, Jaleyah Pitre, Isabel Zubiria, and Johnson, held South Puget Sound without a corner kick for the full 90 minutes.
The match saw its physical moments, with South Puget Sound drawing the lone caution of the evening in the first half.
The win moves Clark to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in NWAC play, while South Puget Sound drops to 0-1 in conference action.
Clark returns to action this weekend with a home contest vs Tacoma at Kim Christensen field. Kickoff is set for 2:30pm.
