Penguins Post Season Cut Short by Riverhawks

Roseburg, Ore. - The Clark College Penguins may have seen their postseason run come to an end Friday afternoon, but they did so with heads held high and a fight that embodied the grit and determination they showed all season long.

Game 1 - Clark College's bats fell silent in Game 2 of the NWAC Super Regionals on Friday afternoon, as the Penguins were shut out by Umpqua Community College, 3-0. With the best-of-three series now tied at one game apiece, both teams will square off in a decisive Game 3 for a spot in the NWAC Championships.

Umpqua struck early, scoring two runs in the first inning and tacking on another in the third. That was all the run support Umpqua's starter, Coffman, needed. The right-hander was dominant, tossing a complete-game shutout while scattering six hits, walking seven, and striking out four. Despite allowing several baserunners, Coffman repeatedly worked out of trouble, stranding 12 Clark runners on base.

Clark starter Kenneth Hall delivered a solid outing of his own, going the full eight innings and allowing just five hits and three earned runs. Hall pitched to contact effectively, inducing 15 groundouts and 9 flyouts, but was hurt by two doubles and four hit batters.

Offensively, Clark managed just six hits and failed to capitalize on multiple opportunities with runners in scoring position. Kobin Mullins led the Penguins at the plate, going 2-for-5. Trevin Long reached base three times with a hit and two walks, but Clark hit into three double plays and went hitless with runners in scoring position.

Defensively, the Penguins struggled with two errors, both charged to shortstop Long, contributing to Umpqua's early momentum. Despite those miscues, Jase Pashales had a strong showing at third base, tallying eight assists.

Game 2 -  Despite falling 3-0 to Umpqua in the decisive Game 3 of the NWAC Super Regionals, the Penguins gave a valiant effort in a tight contest that was closer than the scoreboard suggests.

Clark's pitching staff pieced together a strong outing, allowing just three hits over eight innings while navigating around six defensive errors. Freshman left-hander Luke Woolcott set the tone with six innings of one-hit baseball, giving up only one earned run and striking out three. His poise and control on the mound were instrumental in keeping the game within reach.

At the plate, catcher Duncan Roush led the way with a double—the Penguins' only extra-base hit of the day—while Carson Boyko contributed a pinch-hit single late in the game, showcasing the depth of Clark's bench. Trevin Long added a single and played a major role in the infield, recording six assists at shortstop.

Though offensive opportunities were limited by a strong performance from Umpqua's starter, the Penguins continued to pressure throughout, placing runners in scoring position multiple times and refusing to go quietly.

The Penguins close the season with a 21-23 record and much to be proud of, including a hard-fought appearance in the Super Regionals, where they pushed a strong Umpqua squad to the brink.

With a strong core of returners and a playoff-tested roster, the Penguins have laid a promising foundation for the future—and they'll be back.
