Game Recap: Softball |

Penguin Softball Spits With Cougars

Recapping today's softball action against Clackamas

OREGON CITY, Ore. - Game 1 - The Clark College Penguins battled through tough innings but couldn't contain a relentless Clackamas offense, dropping Friday's NWAC South matchup 9–1 in six innings.

Freshman pitcher Delaney Bollman worked through traffic all game long, tossing 5.2 innings and holding Clackamas to just six earned runs despite facing 36 batters. Bollman struck out five while walking just one, showing poise and grit against a powerful Cougars lineup that racked up 16 hits.

Offensively, Rylee Purdom continued her strong stretch at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and scoring Clark's lone run. Paige Scoggin knocked in the RBI with a productive groundout in the fourth to briefly cut the deficit to 4–1.

Ashley Griffith and Bollman each added hits, while Annali Lindersmith swiped a base after drawing a walk. The Penguins showed patience at the plate, working six walks off Clackamas starter Kenzie West, but couldn't string together enough timely hits, stranding eight runners.

Defensively, Clark struggled with a couple of costly errors that contributed to four unearned Cougar runs. Despite those miscues, the Penguins turned in some sharp plays to limit further damage in key spots.

Clackamas broke the game open in the sixth on a three-run homer from Zoe LeBreton, followed by a single from Natalie Simmons, who tallied three RBIs in the contest.

Game 2 - The Clark College Penguins staged a dramatic comeback and delivered in extras, downing Clackamas 9–7 in eight innings on Thursday afternoon in a game full of resilience, timely hitting, and clutch pitching.

After trailing 7–3 entering the 6th inning, Clark flipped the script with six unanswered runs, capped by a two-run home run from Gabriela Ventura in the top of the 8th. Ventura went 2-for-5 with a double, homer, and 3 RBIs, delivering in the biggest moment of the game.

Delaney Bollman was the engine at the top of the order, going 4-for-5 with 3 runs scored and a stolen base, setting the tone early and often. Promise Bond added a 2-for-5 effort with 2 RBIs, including a game-tying double in the 6th.

Freshman Zoey Mikkelsen provided a huge spark as well, crushing a 2-run home run in the 6th and scoring twice.

On the mound, Clark used a three-pitcher approach. Isabella Weibe opened with three solid innings, allowing just one earned run. After a rocky 4th, Lily Ferres steadied things with 4.0 innings of one-run ball, keeping the Penguins in striking distance and ultimately picking up the win.

Other key contributions:

  • Madison Logan came off the bench with a pinch-hit RBI single to tie it at 7–7 in the 7th.

  • Ashlynn Runnels added an RBI single in the 1st.

  • Clark stole four bases as a team, using aggressive baserunning to pressure the Clackamas defense.
