TUKWILA, Wash. — The Clark College women's soccer team showed grit in the second half but came up just short in a 2–1 road loss to Highline on Wednesday afternoon at Starfire Sports Complex.
After falling behind 2–0 at halftime, the Penguins rallied in the final stretch behind an 80th-minute goal from Bella Rodriguez, who found the back of the net to put Clark on the board and spark late momentum. The goal from Rodriguez was her team leading eighth of the season and buoyed the second-half effort from the Penguins.
Goalkeeper Ella Lulich anchored the Clark defense, recording six saves while facing steady pressure from the Highline attack, which managed 12 total shots and nine on goal. Clark tightened up defensively after the break, limiting Highline's chances and creating several opportunities of their own, including shots on goal from Zaiah Menlove and Jaleyah Pitre.
Clark finished with seven shots, including three on target, while earning five corner kicks in the match. Despite the loss, the Penguins out shot Highline 4–3 in the second half and controlled much of the late possession.
The Penguins conclude their season with a 5-6-3 overall record. With just two sophomores on this year's roster, the young team will look to use their experience from this season to bounce back next fall.
