VANCOUVER, Wash. — Clark volleyball showed several bright spots throughout the afternoon despite dropping a 3–0 decision to first-place Rogue on Saturday at Washington State School for the Deaf. The Penguins opened the match with strong tempo and early leads in the opening set before Rogue closed out the frame and carried momentum the rest of the way.
Sophomore setter Taylee Wilson paced the Clark offense, finishing with 18 assists, while also adding five digs and one service ace. Wilson's early distribution helped Clark jump out to a 4–0 start in the first set, including back-to-back kills from Kylie Miller and an ace from Wilson.
Miller provided a reliable attack presence throughout the match, tallying six kills with a .400 hitting percentage to go along with one ace and one block assist, finishing with 8.0 points.
Freshman Mia Hicks-Oliver added five kills, while Abigail Heberle contributed four kills and four points of her own. The Penguins also benefited from Taylee Wilson's efficiency to read the defense, as she recorded a perfect .750 hitting percentage on three kills.
Clark's defense saw a strong performances from Emelynn Cecil, who anchored the back row with a match-high 22 digs. The Penguins posted 39 total digs on the afternoon and finished with 3.0 total team blocks, highlighted by two block assists from Alicia Arredondo-Gutierrez.
Clark recorded 23 kills, three service aces, and 19 assists in the match, continuing to show improvement in first-contact play and offensive distribution against one of the NWAC's strongest lineups.
The Penguins continue conference play next week as they hit the road to Umpqua Wednesday. They return home Friday when they host Lane, game time is set for 6:00pm.
