VANCOUVER, Wash. - The Clark College women's basketball team delivered an inspiring performance on Saturday, pushing undefeated Umpqua Community College (17-0) to the brink before succumbing to a hard-fought 93-86 overtime defeat at home.
Despite the loss, the Penguins showcased resilience and determination, proving they could compete with the best in the league.
Strong Start by the Penguins Clark came out strong in the first quarter, leveraging aggressive defensive play and efficient shooting to secure a slim 24-23 lead. Yasmin Woodard's nine points in the opening frame set the tone for the Penguins. Mia Hicks-Oliver added crucial support with five points and consistent defensive intensity.
Momentum Shift The second quarter saw Umpqua begin to assert themselves, outscoring Clark 14-17 to lead by halftime. Despite the Riverhawks' strong post presence and transition offense, Clark's defense kept them within striking distance. By the third quarter, Clark clawed back into contention, thanks in part to Ella Botnar's eight points, including two three-pointers that electrified the home crowd.
Overtime Heartbreak Regulation concluded with the score tied at 78, as both teams traded baskets in the closing minutes. However, Umpqua capitalized on key free throws and offensive rebounds in overtime to clinch the victory. Clark struggled with execution in critical moments of the extra period, managing only eight points while Umpqua's disciplined play sealed their perfect record.

Clark's 42 rebounds and 37 bench points highlighted their depth and hustle throughout the game.
