Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Opens League with a Dominate 5-0 Victory over Southwestern Oregon

Coos Bay, OR – September 4, 2024 – Clark College showcased a masterclass in soccer, trouncing Southwestern Oregon 5-0 in a dominant display of skill and teamwork. The match was marked by aggressive play and an impressive offensive performance from Clark.

From the opening whistle, Clark set the tone, and it didn't take long for them to make their mark. In the 9th minute, Sophomore, Randy Valdivia put Clark ahead with a well-placed shot that beat Southwestern Oregon's goalkeeper, Jose Basave. The momentum continued as Sophomore, JP Warnell added two more goals before halftime, scoring in the 16th and 34th minutes to give the penguins a commanding 3-0 lead at the break.

The second half saw more of the same from Clark, who showed no signs of letting up. Valdivia, already on a roll, netted his second goal of the match in the 70th minute, capping off a well-executed play. As the game neared its end, Muhammed Sannah put the final nail in the coffin with a goal in the 88th minute, sealing the 5-0 victory.

Southwestern Oregon struggled throughout the game, managing only three shots compared to Clark's 18. The lakers were unable to breach Clark's defense, and their efforts were stifled by the solid performance of Clark's goalkeeper, Dennis Zimmer, who made three saves to keep a clean sheet.

The match was also notable for its disciplinary issues. Both teams were shown yellow cards throughout the game, with Clark's Ethan Hundt and Trenten Harker, and Southwestern Oregon's Erick Ramirez, Keegan Kruse, Ian Razo, and Tymathe Prince each receiving cautions. Despite the physicality, Clark maintained their composure and focus.

Clark's offense was led by Valdivia and Warnell, who combined for four of the five goals. Their dynamic play and precise finishing were pivotal in securing the emphatic win. Meanwhile, Southwestern Oregon's defense struggled to contain the attacking prowess of Clark and were left to rue missed opportunities.

With this win, Clark's performance will certainly make them a team to watch.
