Baseball Headed to Playoffs after Sweeping Olympic at Home on Mother's Day

VANCOUVER, Wash. - In the final double-header of the regular season, Clark baseball secured their spot in the playoffs after defeating Olympic at home.  With Pierce winning the tie-breaker for positioning, the penguins secure the 4th spot in the west region and will head to Roseburg, Oregon to compete in the super-regional.

Game one on Sunday was a tightly contested match-up at Kindsfather Field, the Clark baseball team emerged victorious over Olympic in a nail-biting 1-0 victory.

From the first pitch, both teams showcased their defensive prowess, keeping the game scoreless through eight innings. The pitchers, Brandon Roundy for Clark and Furuya for Olympic, locked horns in a mesmerizing duel on the mound.

Despite multiple opportunities, Olympic couldn't break through Clark's formidable defense. Furuya displayed remarkable control and determination, holding Clark to just one hit through eight innings.

However, in the bottom of the ninth inning, Clark finally found the breakthrough they needed. With Josh Schleichardt drawing a crucial walk and advancing to second, Tyler Murdock stepped up to the plate and delivered a clutch double, driving in the winning run. It was a moment of jubilation for Clark and their fans as they celebrated a hard-fought victory.

For Olympic, it was a tough loss to swallow, especially considering Furuya's exceptional performance on the mound. Despite their efforts, they couldn't muster enough offense to support their stellar pitching.

Overall, it was a game defined by pitching excellence and defensive prowess, with Clark ultimately emerging as the victors in a thrilling showdown.

Game two was quite a different story with Clark baseball team overwhelming Olympic in a commanding 10-0 victory that ended after just five innings due to the mercy rule.

Right from the start, Clark asserted their dominance, exploding for six runs in the first inning. Olympic's pitchers struggled to find their rhythm, as they grappled with control issues and relentless hitting from the Clark lineup.

Justin Taylor led the offensive charge for Clark, delivering a key hit that ignited their explosive first inning. Tucker Murdock, Riley Fender, and Brandon Roundy also contributed crucial hits and RBIs, capitalizing on Olympic's pitching woes.

Defensively, Clark shut down Olympic's offense, holding them to just one hit in the entire game. Their pitchers, led by Brock Roundy, Cody BlackhurstZachary Hauser, and Evan McGuire, combined forces to stifle Olympic's hitters, keeping them off balance and unable to generate any momentum.

For Olympic, it was a frustrating outing as they struggled to find their footing against Clark's formidable lineup and pitching staff. Despite their efforts, they were unable to mount any significant threat and ultimately fell short against a dominant Clark team.

Next up, the penguins head to Roseburg, Oregon where umpqua (#2 South) will host Bellevue (#3 North) and Clark (#4 West) for a Single play-in game.  The winner of that game will immediately jump into a 3-game series with Umpqua.  The team to win two, will move on to the NWAC championships Memorial Day weekend in Longview, WA.
