Softball splits with Centralia on the road

VANCOUVER, Wash. - On what turned out to be a beautiful day at Bob Peters Field, the Centralia Trailblazers came from behind to defeat the Clark Penguins with a final score of 11-3, in game one of the double-header. The game showcased an exciting display of softball prowess from both sides, with Centralia's late surge ultimately proving decisive.

The game started with Clark taking an early lead, scoring one run in the first inning. However, Centralia's pitcher L. Walker quickly found her rhythm, holding Clark scoreless through the next two innings while her team's offense went to work.

In the bottom of the third inning, Centralia's bats came alive, driving in three runs to take the lead. J. Vallejo's clutch hit drove in two of those runs, setting the stage for Centralia's comeback.

Clark fought back in the fourth inning, tying the game at 3-3 with some timely hitting. However, Centralia regained control in the bottom of the inning, capitalizing on errors and timely hits to score three more runs and reclaim the lead.

The trailblazers didn't stop there. In the fifth inning, they exploded for five more runs, extending their lead to 11-3. Key hits from players like H. Vogele and J. Deebach, combined with some defensive miscues from Clark, allowed Centralia to pull away and secure the victory.

Pitcher L. Walker was instrumental in Centralia's success, going the distance and limiting Clark's offense to just three runs. Her strong performance on the mound earned her the win, while Beth Bowen of Clark was handed the loss despite a solid effort.

In game two the Clark Penguins triumphed over the trailblazers in a high-scoring affair that stretched into extra innings. With both teams showcasing their offensive prowess, it was a game filled with excitement and drama from start to finish.

Centralia got off to a strong start, scoring two runs in the second inning and adding four more in the third to take a commanding lead. However, the Clark Penguins refused to back down, mounting a comeback in the fifth inning with five runs of their own, sparked by key hits from Pravina Blunk, Annali Lindersmith, and Trinity King.

As the game progressed, both teams traded blows, with neither able to gain a decisive advantage. Clark's offense continued to shine, led by standout performances from King, who finished the game with an impressive seven RBIs, and Lindersmith, who contributed three hits and three runs scored.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, with the score tied at 10-10, Clark's King delivered once again, smashing a clutch double to left field to drive in the go-ahead run. Despite Centralia's best efforts to rally in the bottom of the inning, they fell just short, unable to overcome Clark's late surge.

Pitcher Roslynn Tate played a crucial role in Clark's victory, delivering a solid performance on the mound and keeping Centralia's potent lineup in check. Despite facing adversity early in the game, Tate showed resilience and determination, ultimately earning the win.

While Centralia put up a valiant effort, led by standout performances from players like G. Bonney-Sp and J. Vallejo, it was Clark who emerged victorious in this thrilling matchup. With the win, the Penguins improved their record to 11-21, while Centralia fell to 6-20 on the season.

Next up the penguins host Chemeketa on Saturday, April 13th at 12:00pm at the softball complex located at Clark College.
