VANCOUVER, Wash. - In a mid-week showdown on November 6, 2024, Clark extended their impressive season with a resounding 3-0 victory over Portland. Despite a spirited defensive effort from Portland's goalkeeper Joseph Roeper, who registered eight saves, the visiting team had no answer for Clark's offensive pressure, falling to a lopsided defeat.
Clark's offense was relentless from the start. The scoring opened in the 11th minute when Christian Silva found the back of the net off a pass from Milos Mavrak. Silva's strike set the tone, and Clark continued to dominate possession and shots throughout the first half.
Portland, though active in their attack, struggled to break through Clark's defense. Gerardo Contreras had a couple of early chances, including a powerful shot in the 31st minute that was turned away by Clark goalkeeper Jake Bilsborough. But despite a total of eight shots, Portland's attempts were either off target or thwarted by Bilsborough, who finished the night with a single save before being replaced in the 71st minute by Luciano Alvarado.
Clark wasn't done yet. In the 29th minute, center-back Connor Doona doubled the lead with a header off a cross from Randy Valdivia, making it 2-0. The onslaught continued just before halftime when Valdivia himself scored in the 38th minute, curling a shot past Roeper to push Clark's advantage to three goals.
The second half saw Clark ease off the gas slightly but still control the match. Portland's attack showed some life, particularly through Mohamud Abdikadir and Kaito Thammavong, who had shots blocked or saved by Alvarado. Contreras had a notable shot saved in the 81st minute, but it was clear Portland wasn't going to break through.
The match ended with Portland unable to threaten Alvarado in goal, as they struggled to generate clear opportunities. Clark's defense, led by the center-back pairing of Hundt and Doona, kept Portland at bay, limiting their shots on target to just four.
Clark's victory moves them to an impressive 14-1-1 on the season, maintaining their position as one of the top teams in the league. They will travel to Pasco, Washington on Saturday, November 9th to take on the #1 seed from the East in the quarterfinals.
