Clark Dominates Everett in Season Opener at Home

VANCOUVER, Wash. - In a one-sided matchup at the O'Connell Sports Center, Clark College cruised to an 87-52 win over Everett on Friday evening. The game, which was never in doubt, saw Clark dominate in virtually every phase of the game, led by an impressive offensive showing and stifling defense.

Clark's Balanced Attack Powers the Blowout

The game was firmly in Clark's control from the opening tip, as they jumped out to a commanding 22-13 lead in the first quarter. Senior guard Mia Hicks-Oliver was at the forefront of Clark's offensive charge, scoring 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including a perfect 1-of-1 from beyond the arc. She was ably supported by a strong team effort, as six different players reached double figures.

In the second quarter, Clark's lead ballooned even further, as they outscored Everett 25-13. Clark's defense was suffocating, limiting Everett to just two field goals in the period, while their offensive execution continued to shine. Ella Botnar, a key contributor off the bench, added 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Emily Peabody chipped in 12 points and six rebounds.

The third quarter was more of the same, as Clark continued to pour it on with a 23-point quarter. Despite Everett's best efforts, led by a 19-point performance from Jada Andresen, Clark's defense shut down any hope of a comeback. Andresen, who played the entire game, had a solid showing, but her team's shooting woes prevented them from closing the gap. Everett finished the game shooting just 23.7% from the field, including 24% from three-point range.

The fourth quarter saw Clark maintain its dominance, extending the lead to as many as 38 points in the final minutes. Clark's depth was on full display as their bench outscored Everett's reserves 43-14. Clark's real strength came in their balance across the board, with contributions from everyone, including 12 points from Eliana Fleming and 6 points from Payton Allen.

Everett Struggles to Find Offense

For Everett, it was a night to forget. Aside from Andresen's 19 points, the rest of the team struggled to get into any offensive rhythm. The shooting struggles were evident across the board, as they managed just 14-of-59 from the field, including 6-of-25 from three-point range. The team also missed 6 free throws out of 24 attempts (75%), an area that had been a strength earlier in the season.

Arielle Leavens finished with 8 points, all of which came from the free-throw line (6-of-6), while Selena Espinoza contributed 5 points, and Zahara Ritchie-Canad had 4. The team's collective shooting slump was compounded by a lack of offensive flow and an inability to generate second-chance opportunities, as Clark out-rebounded them 42-33, with 16 second-chance points.

Key Takeaways:

  • Clark's offensive depth and balanced scoring were too much for Everett to handle. Four players scored in double figures, and they shot 38.9% from the field, significantly better than Everett's 23.7%.
  • Everett was unable to capitalize on free-throw opportunities, finishing the game with a disappointing 18-of-24 from the line.
  • Clark's defense stifled Everett's offense throughout the game. They forced Everett into tough shots, and their rebounding dominance (42-33) made it difficult for the visitors to create second-chance points.
  • Despite Everett's struggles, Jada Andresen's 19 points were a bright spot, and her leadership was on display in a losing effort.

With the win, Clark moves to 1-0 on the season, while Everett falls to 1-2. The win sets a strong tone for Clark as they look to build momentum.
