Clark College ran off with the lead late in the game in a 6-5 victory over Blue Mountain in game 1 Saturday. The game was tied at two with Penguins Varsity batting in the top of the eighth when
Canon Humphreys singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.
A four-run lead in the ninth inning was just enough for Clark to hold off the timberwolves for the victory. Blue Mountain scored three runs in the failed comeback on a single by Giligan, a double by Rasmussen, and a fielder's choice by Mauzy.
After Clark scored three runs in the top of the ninth, BMCC answered with three of their own. The penguins scored when
Caden Parker singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run and Clark scored two runs on a stolen base. BMCC then answered when Giligan singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, Rasmussen doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, and
Ryan Keith induced Mauzy to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.
Brayden Youkon earned the win for the penguins. Youkon went two and a third innings, allowing three runs on four hits, striking out three and walking zero. Keith threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen. Keith recorded the last two outs to earn the save for Clark.
Mink took the loss for BMCC. Mink lasted eight innings, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out three.
Dylan Waite started the game for Clark College Penguins Varsity. The lefthander lasted six innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out three
Parker went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Clark College Penguins Varsity in hits.
Giligan led BMCC with two hits in three at bats.
