VANCOUVER, Wash - The Clark Penguins volleyball team hosted the Lane Titans in a highly anticipated conference matchup that had fans on the edge of their seats. Lane came into the game seated 3rd in the South Conference, setting the stage for an exciting battle on the court.
The Penguins wasted no time making their presence felt in the first set, catching the Titans off guard by taking an early lead of 9-1. With a blend of power, precision, and teamwork, they never looked back and dominated the set, securing a convincing 25-16 victory.
The second set, however, showcased the Titans' resilience. In a closely contested battle, they managed to edge past the Penguins, winning the set 25-23 and leveling the playing field.
Refusing to be discouraged by their narrow loss, the Clark Penguins came roaring back in the third set. The Titans couldn't match their intensity, and the Penguins secured a 25-17 win, putting themselves back in control of the match.
The fourth set saw both teams engaged in a fierce back-and-forth, trading points and making every moment count. In the end, the Penguins clinched the match with a hard-fought 25-23 set victory.
Freshman, TT Gaopoa was undoubtedly the standout player of the match, tallying an impressive 14 kills. Corin Gutierrez-Orozco contributed 10 kills, and Ruby Ochoa chipped in with 7, adding to the offensive prowess of the Penguins.
The defensive front was equally exceptional, with sophomore Iliana Bills proving to be a force to be reckoned with at the net, amassing a total of 6 critical blocks during the match.
The Penguins' defense played a stellar game, with sophomore Bryana Barry leading the charge with 18 digs. Jordan Caldwell and Josie Becker contributed 8 and 7 digs, respectively, showcasing their agility and quick reflexes on the court.
At the net, the Penguins dominated with a total of 9 blocks, leaving the Titans with only 1. This stellar performance at the net made a significant difference in the outcome of the match, highlighting the Penguins' ability to control the game both offensively and defensively.
In the end, it was a well-deserved victory for the Clark Penguins, who displayed exceptional teamwork, skill, and determination throughout the match. With this impressive win, they continue to make their mark in the South Conference, proving that they are a team to watch in the upcoming games.
Next up the penguins hit the road with two matches next week at Clackamas on Wednesday, October 25th and Chemeketa on Friday, October 27th. They return home for their final matches of conference competition, the following week hosting #1 Linn Benton on Wednesday Nov 1st and will honor their sophomores on Nov 3rd, when the host Mt. Hood.
