Nicknamed “Chub” Johnson, he led the 1947 men’s basketball team to the first ever conference title.  He was later named the tournament Most Valuable Player of the Western States College Tournament held in Compton, CA having scored 101 points.  During the season, Johnson was the leading scorer for the league averaging 17.2 points per game.
